Job Advert Role Description

A vacancy has arisen for a Principal Psychologist to work as part of a dynamic psychology team based at Llanarth Court Hospital.

The Hospital has seven wards and cares for Forensic patients with a range of mental health needs. Our Psychologists work alongside colleagues from Psychiatry, Nursing, Occupational Therapy and Social Work to provide high quality care.

We are looking for a Principal Psychologist who is experienced in assessment and formulation to help determine the treatment needs of individual service users. We are looking for someone who can supervise Trainee Forensic Psychologists, Psychological Assistants and placement students. The role also includes providing training to staff, running reflective practice, writing risk assessments and providing individual and group interventions, to meet the needs of the service. The Principal role also involves consultation and advice to professional staff from other disciplines as well as contributing to the development of evidence-based practices, strategies and policies as requested by the Head of Psychology.

We are looking for someone to take a leading role in the ongoing development, co-ordination and governance of therapeutic activities and groups available to service users within the service, by working with other professional leads, peer support workers and service users. The role also involves supporting in the measurement of the quality of the Psychological provision. There is a large established and supportive psychology team at Llanarth Court to provide the backdrop to the work on the units.   We are looking for someone with leadership qualities and a compassionate approach. 

The successful candidate should have a confident grasp of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and at least two other therapeutic modalities at least one of which includes training in an intervention suitable for working with Forensic mental health patients. Experience in working with complex clients and delivering high-level interventions is required. The successful candidate should ideally be trained and/or delivered clinical supervision and have some leadership/management experience. Finally an understanding and experience in assessments suitable for the forensic population.
