Bristol Hospital (Stapleton, M32):

Our Grade II listed hospital building is set in extensive grounds, just off the M32 and less than three miles from the centre of Bristol, with free on-site parking. We offer 77 beds over seven wards, providing a wide range of services, including Psychiatric Intensive Care (PICU), eating disorders, acute care, rehab and recovery. Our collaborative environment fosters opportunities to gain experience in various services.

Priory Hospital Bristol offers calming and recovery focused inpatient treatment for service users as well as day care group and outpatient services. Personalised treatment programmes are delivered by our multidisciplinary team, specialising in the management and treatment of acute and complex mental health problems.     

This is a role for an experienced Speech and Language Therapist who has experience in neurological disorders and communication difficulties. We are looking for someone to provide highly specialised assessment and therapy for dysphagia and communication impairments to a wide range of adult clients with mental health diagnoses and complex conditions including acquired and progressive neurological conditions e.g. Huntington's disease, Parkinson’s, and stroke.

Working on a rehab ward with up to 14 patients. This is an opportunity to work with longer stay inpatients to support individual rehab and be a part of a therapies team including Occupational Therapy, Occupational Therapy Assistants, Physiotherapy and Psychology, as well as a wider MDT including Psychiatry and the nursing teams.

The post holder will:

•          Manage a complex caseload of patients autonomously with appropriate clinical and managerial supervision

•          Carry out assessment, treatment and outcome measurement of communication for people with complex mental health and /or neurological impairments

•          Carry out assessment and treatment for people with cognitive and physical swallowing disorders as a result of mental health and/or neurological impairments including implementation of risk feeding protocols where indicated

•          Develop individualised goals and treatment programmes alongside providing specialist Speech and Language Therapy advice to the wider multidisciplinary team

•          Work with people and their families to ensure goal are co-produced and client centred whilst managing their expectations as appropriate. 

•          Have experience of managing a complex caseload autonomously

Essential criteria

Degree and Licence to Practise from the Royal College of Speech & Language Therapists

Current AHP with UK HCPC registration and RCSLT membership

Evidence of competence in managing dysphagic patients

Desirable criteria

Well established knowledge of a broad range assessment tools relevant to the specialist client group

Evidence of relevant post-registration education and training e.g. in Stroke, Supervision

Member of a relevant Clinical Excellence Network

Post-graduate dysphagia qualification
