Set in the leafy suburb of Edgbaston, close to Birmingham City centre, Priory Hospital Woodbourne is set in beautiful grounds, conveniently located for access to the West Midlands motorway network and with good local public transport links.
Our unique range of services gives our colleagues the opportunity to develop skills and experience of working with a broad range of mental health conditions across four mental health service lines, across the hospital’s seven wards.
Woodbourne hospital provides a diverse range of inpatient services. These include acute and psychiatric intensive care services for adults. A specialist adult Eating Disorder service and a private addictions service. Across seven wards, our multi-disciplinary teams deliver personalised treatment programmes to our patients and have established an excellent reputation for providing the highest standards of care.
Job Advert Role Description
The role:
Speciality Doctor at Woodbourne will join a group of 12 substantive medical staff. Each ward is led by a Consultant Psychiatrist and is supported by their Speciality Doctor and other members of the Multi Disciplinary Team. We provide an excellent opportunity to develop your clinical knowledge and practice working alongside experienced Consultants and clinicians within the team, offering a wide variety of clinical practice not usually available within the NHS. We offer a solid commitment to your CPD and have an excellent track record in supporting Speciality Doctors to achieve success in professional examinations and to move on to higher specialist training.
We currently have a fixed term vacancy covering our EDU & Private ward.
This will be for 15 hours per week- Thursday & Friday,
Key Accountabilities include:
• Assissting the Consultant in the Management of patients admitted to unit, including clerking in the patients, carrying out detailed mental state examination and physical examination. Organising relevant blood and other tests as indicated. Prescribing for the patients under the guidance of the consultant including rapid tranquilisation.
• Day to day management of patients on the ward including undertaking risk assessments, MDT liaison, Liaison with the community teams and keeping the electronic care records updated including outcome measurements.
• Prompt mental health assessments, reports and clinical summaries. Reports for Mental Health Review Tribunals and Hospital Manager hearings.
. Prepare and send discharge notification and discharge summaries to GPs, community and other teams involved in caring for the patient in a timely manner.
. The post holder must have proficient ICT skills to use our electronic records system (Carenotes) and produce reports.
• Participation in audit, research, quality and performance management and other clinical and professional activities.

• A medical degree (MB ChB or equivalent)
• Full GMC registration with licence to practice
• A minimum of 2-3 year's experience in mental health.
