Burston House, a leading low secure hospital near the vibrant market town of Diss, is seeking an experienced and dedicated Deputy Ward Manager/Charge Nurse to join our dynamic team. Our facility specialises in providing assessment and treatment services to 23 adults primarily diagnosed with learning disabilities. Many of our patients also have complex needs, including forensic histories, mental illness, ASC, and Personality Disorders, with most being detained under the Mental Health Act 1983.


As a Deputy Ward Manager/Charge Nurse at Burston House, you will play a vital role in providing senior nursing leadership to the ward team under the guidance of the Ward Manager. You will leverage your clinical expertise and leadership skills to inspire confidence in the nursing team and contribute to the overall success of the unit. This role will encompass defined delegated responsibilities from the Ward Manager, including supervisory duties over an assigned group of staff members.

Key Responsibilities:

Ensure a safe and therapeutic environment for patients, their families, and visitors within the ward or equivalent area.
Apply relevant policies and statutory requirements, communicating these to the wider team.
Assess and manage risks across the immediate and broader working environment while meeting statutory requirements.
Champion and apply equality and diversity requirements, serving as a role model for the team.
Identify skill mix deficits and staffing level gaps, taking action to rectify them.
Provide supervision and contribute to the continuous professional development, mandatory training, and appraisal process for a defined group of team members.
Foster a culture of learning, development, inquiry, and teamwork by serving as a role model.
Implement, monitor, and evaluate therapeutic interventions within an overall care program, enabling individuals with mental health and/or learning disability needs to develop coping strategies.
Actively engage in Multi-Disciplinary Working to ensure comprehensive care.
Collaborate in problem-solving, empowering clients to take ownership of issues and develop solutions based on their own needs and preferences.
Contribute to the collaborative assessment and action on risks of harm, danger, and abuse.
Act as the named nurse for a small group of patients, acting as an Associate nurse for colleagues when on duty, and regularly leading shifts.
Provide Clinical Supervision to a defined group of nursing staff.
Undertake lead roles for the ward as agreed with the Ward Manager.
Deputise for the Ward Manager as required.
Adhere to all National, Company, and local standards, policies, and procedures.

Requirements:

 Active Registration with the NMC, meeting the requirements of Revalidation.
Clinical Supervision experience (essential), training (desirable).
Evidence of Continued Professional Development with the intent to maintain and develop further in this area.
Strong computer skills.
At least 3 years, or equivalent experience post-registration in Mental Health or Learning Disability services
