Job Advert - Division Information

Providing quality, inspiring innovation and  delivering value is what we set out to achieve at Priory Healthcare. Enabling our patients with mental health illness to receive a truly integrated and holistic approach to their treatment, regardless of complexity or severity, thanks to the knowledge and expertise of our multidisciplinary clinical teams.

Job Advert Location Description

About us:
Priory Hospital Solihull is a mental health hospital in beautiful grounds in the picturesque village of Meriden. Situated on the outskirts of Solihull and Coventry, we provide Rehabilitation & Recovery services to 31 inpatients over three wards:

  • Arley Ward - 10 bedded female R&R service (HDU/Complex Care)
  • Elkin Ward - 10 bedded male R&R service (HDU/Complex Care)
  • Millison Ward - 11 bedded male R&R service (Community Facing)

Patients have a primary diagnosis of a Serious Mental Illness, with additional complexities such as physical health conditions, substance misuse, and secondary mental health issues.

Priory Hospital Solihull benefits from a stable and established MDT which includes the Medical team, OT, Psychology, Nurses, HCAs and Ward Managers. The hospital offers a range of assessments, treatments and interventions with a strong focus on patient collaboration in decision making and working with people in the least restrictive way.

Priory Group’s focus on quality improvement, combined with Priory Hospital Solihull’s focus on delivering patient centred care allow us to continuously evaluate and enhance our performance.

Our approach:
The treatment programme at Priory Hospital Solihull aims to optimise patient’s independence. We support our patient’s recovery by assessing their abilities and needs, and developing psychological, emotional, social and occupational skills, alongside treating and minimising risk behaviours. All interventions aim to help the patient to maximise independence, understand the effect their experiences have on themselves and others, to help them to manage the impact of internal and external triggers on their behaviour, and ultimately to provide hope for a fulfilling future.

These interventions include individual and group psychological therapies, such as Substance Misuse, Relapse Prevention and Well-Being, and Occupational Therapy, such as Cooking Skills, Budgeting and Life Skills.

Our approach to care explicitly acknowledges patient’s as individuals, each with their own unique skills and needs.  Supporting patients to identifying meaningful and achievable goals is essential for successful engagement and treatment.

Job Advert Role Description

The role:
We are seeking an Occupational Therapist to work across our rehabilitation and recovery wards, with the support of our two OTAs. Suitable candidates will have a degree in Occupational Therapy (MSc pre-registration or BSc) and registration with HCPC. The role involves applying OT assessments and interventions, 1-to-1 with patients and also leading group work, and experience of both is highly desired.

We are looking to recruit a values-led, resourceful, motivated OT; with experience in mental health, who enjoys new challenges and who has an understanding of the value of being engaged in meaningful occupations. This role requires compassion, enthusiasm, creativity and proactivity.

As an Occupational Therapist, you will support our patients to engage in the therapeutic programme which is delivered in conjunction with psychology and nursing colleagues. This will be achieved through the planning and facilitation of 1:1 and group interventions. You will work alongside other members of the multidisciplinary team to identify the patients' Occupational Needs.

You will be responsible for observing, recording and reporting patients involvement in 1:1s and groups. You will observe and monitor the wellbeing of patients ensuring that any unusual physical, mental or emotional occurrences are promptly referred to more senior staff and documented as appropriate.

You will be required to ensure the effective, timely and accurate updating of clinical records and computerised information systems.

Experience of working in inpatient mental health services or a similar role would be desirable. Experience in line managing and supervising junior colleagues is also desirable but not essential.

We’d like to offer you:

  • Support from two Occupational Therapy Assistants
  • Your own OT Team office and department building including a gym, ADL kitchen, computer room and therapy room
  • Active involvement within the OT professional network
  • Opportunities for career development
  • Competitive salary
  • 25 days annual leave plus 8 bank holidays (pro rota)
  • An additional days leave for your birthday
  • Contributory pension scheme
  • DBS check cost coverage
  • Comprehensive induction and commitment to ongoing CPD training
  • Free on-site parking
  • Subsidised meals on duty (only £1 per meal)
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Priory Online Benefits and Cashback rewards
