The Ayr Clinic, with its two step down services - Gatehouse and Lochlea, is a low secure setting, caring for men and women mental illness and/or personality disorders.

Within the service, an opportunity has arisen for an occupational therapists to join the multidisciplinary team. Working within a low security environment and operating with a full multi-disciplinary team including occupational therapy, forensic psychiatry, nursing and psychology. The role will involve undertaking occupational therapy assessments, interventions and evaluations for a designated caseload. You will work closely with the other occupational therapists on site and form part of a multi-disciplinary team within your allocated ward/site. You will manage and co-ordinate the implementation of individual treatment plans for occupational therapy services ensuring treatment, activities and interventions are delivered through effective application and communication.  As an occupational therapist you will be working across our services within the Ayr Clinic or across Gatehouse and Lochlea. You will be expected to work autonomously, as well as part of a team using evidence based practice and client centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions in both hospital and community settings.

Considering the service user’s own views carefully, you will assess their abilities to perform activities and design treatment programmes to increase their capability to tackle identified goals and progress within their recovery pathway.

To be successful within this role as an Occupational Therapist, you will need:

BSc Hons or Diploma in Occupational Therapy and accreditation by the HCPC and full RCOT membership

Responsibilities

  • Undertake patient assessment and observation to identify patient need before planning and delivering appropriate and relevant interventions on either a group of individual basis
  • Maintain and develop close working relationships with professional and clinical colleagues within the multidisciplinary team, ensuring that clinical practice is in line with Priory policies and procedures
  • Support junior occupational therapy staff and students
  • Lead on further development and implementation of occupational therapy service within the site, under supervision of Lead Occupational Therapist
  • Organise and deliver therapeutic activities for service users
  • Assess service users’ response to interventions in accordance with agreed models of practice
  • Provide practical support, advice and education to service users, carers and other disciplines
  • Be responsible for the recording of all patient related activity information
  • Produce accurate and timely documentation on all clients in line with your professional Code of Conduct and organisational policies
  • Carry out risk assessments including any potential hazards in the service users environment
  • Attend multi-disciplinary meetings i.e. referral / review / business / CPA and weekly ward rounds
  • Report and document incidents as required
  • Facilitate and support in group work such as relaxation, health promotion, life skills etc.
  • Be competent in use of relevant screening and assessment tools
  • Participate in the continuing development of a high quality service that is underpinned by evidence based practice, care pathways / packages
