Are you a great psychiatrist looking for an exciting new opportunity?

A vacancy has arisen to become the responsible clinician / psychiatrist for Oak Ward, a 12 bed female psychiatric acute admissions unit.

 

Priory Middleton St George is a large psychiatric hospital set in generous grounds on the edge of an attractive village located near Teesside Airport. We have a range of services, including acute wards, psychiatric intensive care units, and high dependency rehabilitation and personality disorder services.

 

As the responsible clinician for Oak female acute admissions ward, you will provide clinical expertise and leadership. You will be responsible for the care of patients on the ward, supported in the role by a multidisciplinary team, including nursing staff and an advance clinical practitioner, with input from occupational therapy and psychology. The ward will typically receive referrals from the community for admission and occasionally from psychiatric intensive care units for discharge planning. With the ward, you will be responsible for prompt triage of referrals.

 

The successful appointee will join an enthusiastic and welcoming medical team. We offer great opportunities for continuing professional development. As well as supportive study leave, we have a weekly academic programme and opportunities to supervise medical students and advance practitioners.

The hospital has excellent psychology and occupational therapy teams. We have good physical health care arrangements, overseen by sessional GP support. We have a health and fitness instructor, dietetic input and access to speech and language therapy. We have excellent on site facilities for patients, including an all-weather AstroTurf, ADL kitchens, two gyms, a library and our own Recovery College.

 

The successful candidate will have the following attributes:

•          Previous Consultant experience is desirable but not essential

•          You must be a Responsible/Approved Clinician

•          You must hold a CCST/CCT or equivalent and have experience of working in inpatient settings with people with significant mental health difficulties

•          Valid GMC registration

•          Evidence of post registration continuing professional development

•          A positive attitude and commitment to quality improvement

•          Excellent verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills

•          Excellent knowledge of the Mental Health Act and Code of Practice

 

The post-holder will be expected to participate in our out of hours on call rota (currently 1 week in 8), providing 2nd on call advice to the entire hospital. supported by a first on call tier. The post-holder will also provide cross-cover to a colleague on a buddy system.

The Priory Hospital Middleton St George is a 101 bedded mental hospital  located close to Darlington, County Durham. We  provide individualised treatment and care for people with complex mental health needs of adult working age, in a safe and supportive environment.

 

We are a hospital in the independent sector, however all our patients are NHS patients and we work closely with NHS Trusts nationally to provide comprehensive and holistic integrated services to ensure recovery, re-engagement, re-enablement and safe discharge.
