About us:

Nelson House is a modern and spacious 28 bedded Rehabilitation and Recovery mental health unit providing care for men of adult working age with mental illness. Located on the South Coast in Gosport, it is centrally located with access to Beaches, and the New Forest. We have two wards, Trafalgar our High Dependency Ward and Victory which is a step down ward.

By having a focus on the development of skills for independence the unit provides a positive step for patients, many whose next step will be living in the community. It helps patients learn new ways of managing their conditions and symptoms with the aim of helping to prevent any future relapse. For patients with challenging behaviours, Nelson House helps them to learn skills to change their response to anxiety and distress.  

We have a full MDT, with Psychology and Occupational Therapy being a key driver within our unit

The Deputy Ward Manager Role

The role of the Deputy Ward Manager is to provide senior nursing leadership to the ward nursing team in support of the Ward manager.  They will have a degree of clinical experience and leadership that provides expertise and confidence to the nursing team and ward overall. They will have defined delegated responsibilities from the ward manager. You will have one day every four weeks of protected time for their deputy Ward Manager duties and have supervisory responsibilities for an agreed group of staff
