Testimonial

"After a short break away from the company I returned to the kingfisher ward as their Occupational Therapist in June 2017. In the following year my boss, Therapy Business Manager (TBM) went on maternity leave and I was lucky enough to be appointed to her maternity leave cover. This was the Therapy business manager post which managed the therapists at the Priory Hospital Southampton as well as the Wellbeing centre in Southampton. This post gave me the opportunity to work with team across three wards of the hospital working as part of the SMT and alongside the ward managers. I have always had a love for CAMHS so when the ward manager position became available I went for it. The Prior had recently completed a piece of work to amend their job descriptions for ward managers and DoCS to be not only from a nursing background but alternatively from an allied health professionals (AHP) back ground. Having worked on the ward I had an understanding of the day to day running, a good relationship with the established nursing team and I had learnt so much from working alongside the previous ward manager when I was in the TBM role that I felt I had enough knowledge to go for the role. I think it has been a learning curve not only for me but for the site to have an non nurse in a ward manager position. It has bought challenges in that I have had to learn about meds management very quickly however the majority of the tasks AHP have transferable skills for. The only other things that have been required are a passion for the service line, a willingness to learn and a supportive team around me. If you have an interest in a ward manager post and are an allied health profession I would urge you to go for it as while it is one of the most challenging jobs I have ever had it is also the most rewarding and most fun".
