Job Advert Role Description

There is an exciting opportunity for a registered social worker to join the team at Cheadle Royal Hospital as a Lead Social Worker. The post holder reports to the deputy hospital director, and is responsible for over-seeing and leading all Social Worker activity, providing line management to other members of the social worker team, and providing direct social work support to assigned clients, contributing to the needs assessments of clients and their families and identification of relevant resources pre and post discharge.

A significant proportion of the role will involve acting as the site Safeguarding Lead. Priory is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults. You will be responsible for safeguarding the interests of children and adults who you come into contact during your work. To fulfil these duties, you will be required to facilitate training and development for staff to ensure the early identification of the signs and symptoms of abuse or individuals at risk, to comply with legislation and local and national policy relating to safeguarding practice, and to appropriately report and act on safeguarding concerns relating to patients.

The Safeguarding Lead will take responsibility for ensuring children and young people and vulnerable adults on site are appropriately safeguarded. They will have a responsibility to liaise with local statutory children’s and adult’s services and with the Local Safeguarding Children Board and Local Safeguarding Adult Board. They will provide support, advice and guidance to all staff on an on-going basis and on any specified safeguarding issue as required.

The role will include:

• Ensuring the setting is meeting its legal and statutory requirements in relation to safeguarding

• Undertaking regular review of safeguarding policy and activity, and when necessary updating safeguarding policies and procedures.

• Ensuring that safeguarding policies and procedures are fully implemented and adhered to by all staff, students and volunteers

• Providing support, supervision and advice for any staff member or patient with a safeguarding concern

• Ensuring that their own knowledge, skills and abilities are kept up to date by accessing appropriate resources and training

• Providing safeguarding induction for new staff, students and volunteers

• • Keeping all staff informed of good practice and changes to legislation and guidance

• Having a comprehensive understanding of the referral obligations to the appropriate agencies.

• Liaising with and making referrals to appropriate agencies about children where there are safeguarding concerns, including the Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO)

• Liaising with CQC to inform them of any allegations of abuse and the actions planned and taken

• Managing allegations against staff

• Co-ordinating the early identification of vulnerable children and families and the involvement of mothers, fathers and carers

• Co-ordinating the development of integrated practice for vulnerable children and families

• Co-ordinating and supporting the setting when working with a child who is subject to a child in need or  child protection plan.

• Developing and managing clear, accurate and secure record keeping systems

About you:

-Social Work England Registered Social Worker

- Level 4 or above safeguarding training

- Highly developed analytical and problem solving skills

- Written, verbal communication and presentation skills of a high standard

- Ability to work in a flexible manner

- Ability to work on own initiative whilst balancing priorities to meet deadlines and team objectives

- Ability to form excellent working relationships

- Knowledge and understanding of Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards, Mental Capacity Act, Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults and Safeguarding Children agendas

- Knowledge of national policy/research and legislation relating to the Safeguarding Adults agenda.

-  Understanding of cultural differences and a commitment to culturally sensitive and inclusive working

- Excellent knowledge and understanding of the roles and duties of mental health and social care organisations

- Ability to challenge practice and drive and support change

- Good working knowledge and demonstrable experience of application of Health and Social Care legislation and CQC Standards

- Ability to ensure patient and staff confidentiality is maintained at all times.
