Llanarth Court Hospital is a 96 bedded forensic hospital providing a multi disciplinary service in low, medium and open rehabilitation settings.
We are currently recruiting for a full time Ward Manager for our 16 bedded, medium secure female ward.
You will need to have a RNLD/RMN qualification and be a Priory Charge Nurse or equivalent in the NHS. It is also desirable to have experience in a forensic setting though a keen desire to work in this challenging field is necessary.
You will have 24 hour responsibility for a unit within a forensic psychiatric hospital. You will manage a staff team , be an integral part of the multi disciplinary team and to ensure high standard of care is delivered. You must be able to communicate with external professionals including family members, commissioners and regulatory bodies and be a positive role model for the organisation. You will be expected to maintain a high level of professional support and participate in a managerial role to ensure the hospital is adequately supported You will need to be a positive role model to staff working with challenging patients.
The ability to have a flexible, positive, team orientated approach is required.

At Llanarth Court, we’re looking for a professional, confident senior nurse who can lead, inspire and oversee the delivery of high quality care to our female patients.
This is a unique opportunity to work within the largest independent forensic hospital in Wales, whereby you’ll have the ability to lead and develop a service to support a patient’s recovery.
Llanarth Court Hospital is a 95 bedded forensic hospital providing a secure environment consisting of medium, low and open rehabilitation settings for men and women with mental illness and or personality disorder. Llanarth Court is set in 96 acres of beautiful grounds, with rolling lawns, a large lake and an abundance of wildlife. The busy market towns of Abergavenny and Monmouth are easily accessible by public transport and the Brecon Beacons less than an hour’s drive away.
We are a sector leading example of how providing a wide variety of care settings, and a clear care pathway in the direction of recovery can benefit all individuals.
This role will be based within Awen Ward, a purpose built 16 bedded medium secure service for women, who either have mental illness, a treatable personality disorder or a combination of both.
The successful candidate will be resilient, as no two days are the same, and have a desire to work within a female service.
The successful candidate will work within an experienced multidisciplinary team, providing leadership to the nursing department with a focus on communication and encouraging team work. They will be responsible for assisting with the co-ordination of the quality and management of nursing care and the clinical environment of the wards whilst ensuring that the unit complies with statutory regulations, current legislation and meets quality standards.
Main responsibilities include:
- Managing the ward and resources effectively, taking steps to ensure that appropriate staffing levels and skill mix of nursing experience and skills is in place.
- Ensures that all members of the nursing team receive clinical supervision
- Acts as a highly visible role model, mentor and leader, creating a culture that promotes learning, development, inquiry and professionalism, celebrates achievements and shares learning to the benefit of the ward, hospital and wider division.
- Disseminates, implements and monitors compliance with relevant policies and statutory requirements of the hospital, division and group.
- Takes appropriate action to ensure that the standard of care that patients receive is of the highest standard.
- Ensures that all patients have clear current care plans that reflect their personalised needs, and are evidence based and ensures that family members and carers are suitable engaged based on the needs and wants of the patient.
- Ensures the ward has clear procedures and processes to support the safe and effective running of the ward at all times, including the nutrition of patients, cleanliness of the environment; using tools such as Quality walk rounds to assist.
- Ensures that the legislative frameworks regarding the Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberties is applied in accordance with Company Policy, and National Requirements.
- Is responsible for Medicines Management in their Clinical Area/Ward
- Engages with other members of the Ward MDT, to facilitate positive and efficient MDT working
The successful Candidate will receive an excellent salary of up to £51,393 per annum dependent upon experience
What you will bring
