Nelson House is a modern and spacious 28 bed locked rehabilitation recovery service providng a service for 18 for men with mental illness. By having a focus on the development of skills for independence the unit provides a positive step for patients, many whose next step will be living in the community. It helps patients learn new ways of managing their conditions and symptoms with the aim of helping to prevent any future relapse. For patients with challenging behaviours, Nelson House helps them to learn skills to change their response to anxiety and distress.
Job Advert Role Description
We are looking to recruit a dynamic, reliable and creative Deputy Ward Manager to join our Nursing Management Team.
The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting with the co-ordination of the quality and management of nursing care and the clinical environment on the wards whilst ensuring that the unit complies with statutory regulations, current legislation and meets quality standards.
Main responsibilities include:
• Assisting the Ward Managers in managing the ward and resources effectively, taking steps to ensure that appropriate staffing levels and skill mix of nursing experience and skills is in place.
• Ensures that all members of the nursing team receive clinical supervision
• Acts as a highly visible role model, mentor and leader, creating a culture that promotes learning, development, inquiry and professionalism, celebrates achievements and shares learning to the benefit of the ward, hospital and wider division.
• Disseminates implements and monitors compliance with relevant policies and statutory requirements of the hospital, division and group.
• Takes appropriate action to ensure that the standard of care that patients receive is of the highest standard.
• Ensures that all patients have clear current care plans that reflect their personalised needs, and are evidence based and ensures that family members and carers are suitable engaged based on the needs and wants of the patient.
• Assist in ensuring the ward has clear procedures and processes to support the safe and effective running of the ward at all times, including the nutrition of patients, cleanliness of the environment; using tools such as Quality walk rounds to assist.
• Ensures that the legislative frameworks regarding the Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberties is applied in accordance with Company Policy, and National Requirements.
• Is responsible for Medicines Management in their Clinical Area/Ward
• Engages with other members of the Ward MDT, to facilitate positive and efficient MDT working
We are seeking a confident and reliable professional who has excellent communication and interpersonal skills; both verbal and non-verbal; and an ability to regularly deal with demanding and difficult situations.
You will be currently Registered with the Nursing Midwifery Council as a mental health nurse, with at least 3 years experience. You will be computer literate with experience of quality compliance monitoring. Being a trained and current mentor will be an added advantage.
