Job Advert Role Description

Priory Hospital Bristol is part of the Healthcare Division of Priory Group and has 77 beds over seven wards varying from Eating Disorders, Acute Mental Health, Acquired Brain Injury, Huntingdon’s and Dementia

Priory Bristol Hospital has a stand-alone, purpose built adult psychiatric unit in the beautiful grounds on the outskirts of Bristol.  Priory Group’s focus on quality improvement, combined with Priory Bristol Hospital’s focus on delivering patient-centred care allow us to continuously evaluate and enhance our performance.

Priory Bristol Hospital enjoys a stable and established MDT which includes OT, psychology and experienced RMN's.  The hospital offers a range of treatments and interventions including promoting least restrictive practice and patient collaboration in decision making. The service works closely with other Priory Healthcare services within the Private Region enabling and developing supportive care pathways.

Our approach

The treatment programmes at Priory Bristol Hospital aim to optimise patient recovery and potential by treating and minimising risk behaviours and by enabling them to develop psychological / emotional, social and occupational skills and resilience.

All interventions aim to help the patient to understand the effect of their behaviour on others, to help them to manage the impact of external triggers on their behaviour and ultimately to promote the concept of recovery. These interventions include:

  • Dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT)
  • Individual and group psychological therapy
  • Drug and alcohol programme (ATP)
  • Integrative Therapy
  • Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)
  • Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy (REBT)
  • Hypnotherapy

Our structured approach to care explicitly acknowledges and supports the issue of change (or readiness for change) and is essential for successful engagement and treatment.

The Role

We now have a vacancy for a dedicated full-time Consultant Psychiatrist on our male-only psychiatric intensive care unit (PICU). The service will accept admissions 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, from local NHS and other parts of the United Kingdom. We seek to appoint a highly-motivated Consultant Psychiatrist to complement our existing medical work force. As a Consultant Psychiatrist you would lead a multidisciplinary team of professionals from nursing, clinical psychology, social work and occupational therapy and a Specialty Doctor who will form part of the MDT.

The successful candidate will be joining an expanding and clinically diverse Priory Private Region.  There is strong governance structure within the Region and the successful applicant will be expected to take an active role in service and quality development activities and to participate in governance meetings and Service Line meetings, as necessary.

Priory Bristol Hospital operates a non-residential medical on call rota and the post holder is expected to participate on the on-call rota.
