About Nelson House Hospital:
Nelson House Hospital is a modern and spacious locked rehabilitation recovery service for men with mental illness. By having a focus on the development of skills for independence the unit provides a positive step for patients, many whose next step will be living in the community. It helps patients learn new ways of managing their conditions and symptoms with the aim of helping to prevent any future relapse. For patients with challenging behaviours, Nelson House helps them to learn skills to change their response to anxiety and distress.
Job Advert Location Description
Purpose of the role:
As the Director of Clinical Services, you will be working with the Hospital Director in the day to day management of the service as well as making sure the service is fully compliant, making sure clinical care is being delivered at the highest standards and ensuring key performance indictor's are being delivered.
The Director of Clinical Services will have to run this rehabilitation service when needed. As a key member to this nursing service and part of the SMT, you will play a key role in providing clinical and operational leadership to your team in support of the Hospital Director.
Responsibilities include:
• Undertaking full clinical responsibilities for the service
• Reporting directly to the Hospital Director of the service
• Deputising in times of absence
• On Call Cover
Essential criteria:
• Need to be clinically trained - RMN with at least 2 years Clinical experience
• Be dynamic and effective in your approach
• Be experienced within the Mental Health Sector
• You will empower and have good leadership skills

Patient profile:
Patients at Nelson House are usually referred from either: acute services; out of area services or other rehabilitation services. Some patients may move to Nelson House as a step down from secure services, or a step up from community rehabilitation or supported living. Referrals are accepted from medium and low secure forensic services, acute wards, out of-area services, rehabilitation services or from the community.
Service User profile:
Men
Aged 18+
Have a primary mental health diagnosis
Informal or detained under MHA
Severe, complex and enduring mental health issues which might include treatment resistant conditions
May have challenging behaviour, substance misuse and learning disabilities
May be difficult to engage / motivate
May have a history of disengagement and non-adherence with other services.
Our Clinical Team
Nelson House has a full multidisciplinary team (MDT), with 1 full time Consultant Psychiatrist, 1 part time Consultant Psychologist, and an Occupational Therapist. The Nursing Team and Recovery Support Workers are led by the Ward Manager and Deputy Ward Manager.
Education and Activities:
Patients have access to a full programme of on-site activities. There are also established links with local colleges to provide education and vocational opportunities with a focus on maximising rehabilitation potential and meaningful leave. Structured MDT Therapy sessions are held every day, offering group work and daily living skills. Patients are encouraged and assisted to make their own meals where appropriate in the purpose built self-catering kitchen. Patients are encouraged to develop and value their daily routine and organisational skills through self-directed activity. Patients are encouraged to be actively involved in hospital developments by attending regular community meetings and taking part in patient involvement projects such has environmental works which enhance and empower the overall patient experience.
The therapy programme offers a 12 week timetable which includes in-house psychology.
