The Priory Hospital Southampton is part of the Priory Group offering inpatient treatment for a wide range of mental health difficulties. The hospital is located in Marchwood on the outskirts of Southampton and comprises of 40 inpatient beds across three wards.

Outline of the Role:

You will report to the Head Chef/Cook and together with your Catering Assistant colleagues you will ensure that patients, staff and visitors are offered tasty and nutritious meals which are prepared to a high standard. You will be supported by an experienced Support Services Manager and together with your colleagues from the Maintenance and Housekeeping Teams, you will ensure that the healthcare team are supported to deliver high quality care.
We have a highly experienced team of mental health professionals and support staff, which include consultant psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses and therapists

Job Advert Role Description

The duties of the job role are to:

1. Undertake the planning, preparation and cooking of meals, taking account of any special requests or dietary requirements within the unit. 
2. Take full shift responsibility for the catering operation (in the absence of the Head Chef). 
3. Ensure the cost-effective and efficient control of stock including placing orders for food products and the checking/reconciliation of deliveries. Ensure that wastage is minimised.  
4. Assist the Head Chef by researching and creating new menus ensuring meals are of a high quality and compliment healthy eating guidelines.  
5. Supervise assigned catering staff ensuring their quality of work continues to meet required operational standards and the company’s Assured Safe Catering policies and guidelines. 
6.Organise and prioritise own work within established procedures, referring complex issues to senior catering staff. 
 
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
NVQ2 or equivalent together with a basic qualification in food hygiene. Experience within a professional kitchen environment. 

The role holder works within a busy kitchen environment using a variety of equipment where many routine duties require a degree of sustained physical effort. The role holder will be required to undertake specialist dietary training, as well as partaking in Priory’s mandatory training programme.
 
Successful applicants will be given an initial interview followed by a second stage chef test interview cooking a lunch time service with support from our senior chefs.
