About Us:

The Priory Hospital Southampton is part of the Priory group offering outpatient, day care and inpatient treatment for a wide range of mental health difficulties. The hospital is located in Marchwood on the outskirts of Southampton and comprises of 40 inpatient beds across three wards. We have a highly experienced team of mental health professionals and support staff which include consultant psychiatrists, nurses, specialty doctors, occupational therapists, dietitians, and therapists. The three wards in the hospital offer a range of inpatient mental health services.

Sandpiper Ward: This is 17 bedded adult acute ward

Skylark Ward: Skylark offers specialist eating disorders treatment and comprises 11 beds.

Starling Ward: This is 12 bedded adult acute ward


Priory Hospital Southampton has been rated as “Good” in recent CQC inspection with “outstanding” rating in the "caring" domain.

Job Advert Location Description

We are seeking to recruit a dynamic Occupational Therapist who would work as an integral member of the MDT to support in providing evidence based therapy interventions across all 3 wards.

The post is for a 0.8FTE. we are a very flexible team and all requests will be considered.

We are looking to recruit a values-led, resourceful, motivated OT; with experience in mental health, who enjoys new challenges and who has an understanding of the value of being engaged in meaningful occupations. This role requires compassion, enthusiasm, creativity and proactivity.

As an Occupational Therapist, you will support our patients to engage in self-care, productive and recreational groups. This will be achieved through the planning and facilitation of 1:1 and group interventions. You will work alongside the therapy team and members of the multidisciplinary team to identify the patients' Occupational Needs.

Core clinical roles:

  • Conduct / contribute to the assessment process, as well as the observation and ongoing assessment, providing accurate and timely feedback.
  • Participate in the planning, implementation / evaluation and ongoing review of treatment plans.
  • Assess service users’ response to activities in accordance with agreed models of practice e.g. MOHO/KAWA
  • Run a comprehensive group timetable in line with needs of the current service users with OT assistants.
  • Provide practical support, advice and education to service users, carer’s and other disciplines.
  • Responsible for the recording of all patient related information.
  • Produce accurate and timely documentation on all clients in line with your Professional Code of Conduct and organisational policies.
  • Carry out risk assessments including any potential hazards in the service users environment.
  • Attend multi-disciplinary meetings i.e. core professions meetings / CPA and weekly ward rounds.
  • Report and document incidents as required.
  • Facilitate and support in Quality Improvement projects, health promotion etc.
  • Participate in research where appropriate and contribute to the development of service policies.
