Job Advert Role Description

Priory Group is the UK’S leading independent provider of mental health care and education services.  We have an outstanding reputation both for the service we deliver and for the investment we make in our people and in our environment.

Priory Hospital Cheadle Royal is an inpatient Mental Health Hospital set within 33 acres of grounds and is home to 14 wards and 151 beds, covering Adult Acute and PICU, Eating Disorders, Rehabilitation and CAMHS services. We provide high quality multi-disciplinary care for our service users in order to aid their recovery and provide them with a brighter future.

We have upcoming vacancy for a Specialty Grade Doctor to work within our CAMHS Low Secure Unit, which is a 10 bedded female service for young people aged 13-18 with complex mental health needs.

You will be joining an established team with many years of experience and will be well supported in developing skills in working with this challenging patient group.  We pride ourselves on achieving positive outcomes for young people who have spent significant periods in hospital and struggled with significant mental health issues.  Quality and safe care using a least restrictive approach are key.

Our unit is nationally recognised and is a previous winner of the NAPICU Team of the Year competition.  Our consultant is the Clinical Director of the CAMHS Service Line for Priory Group and National Clinical Lead for LSU CAMHS at NHS England.  We follow the Low Secure QNIC Standards issued by the Royal College of Psychiatrists and this stipulates the composition of our MDT, which includes Doctors, Nurses, Clinical Psychologists, a Family Therapist, Occupational Therapist, Music Therapist, Dietician and Social Worker. We have an OFSTED registered school on site which provides the young people with a full education programme.

Your role on the unit will be to provide day-to-day medical support to the young people and the team. This will involve regular medical and mental state reviews with the young people, medication management, involvement in ward round and review meetings, reflective practice and team meetings.  You will have good writing skills and will provide regular reports for meetings and for MHA review tribunals and managers’ hearings.  You will be able to deputise for the consultant in his absence with the support of the MDT.  You will also provide cross-cover for other SGDs in the hospital and will take part in a 1:10 on-call rota out of hours that covers the whole hospital site.  This will give you a broad exposure to other service lines and gain experience across a range of specialities.

Previous post-holders have achieved success in their MRCPsych examinations, have moved on to Higher Specialist Training and are now Consultants.  There is an active training programme at Priory Hospital Cheadle Royal which includes regular academic meetings. SGDs also meet regularly as a group and have individual support and supervision.  Examination practice is on offer from consultants who have examined for the CASC examination.  Further training opportunities are available, including both internal and external CPD courses and conferences, according to your CPD needs. There are also options for becoming involved in management and Quality Improvement iniatives.
