Our service offers a low secure hospital setting based on the Norfolk/Suffolk border and provides a range of assessment and treatment services to 31 adults with primary diagnosise of learning disability who challenge the provision in mainstream care

Job Advert Role Description

We are looking to recruit a motivated and enthusiastic Occupational Therapist to join our supportive, dynamic and friendly team.


As a team we creatively deliver occupation-based interventions to facilitate the maintenance and development of skills of service users. We offer a wide range of interventions including accredited educational qualifications, sensory interventions, community based activities and courses developed and delivered through our Recovery College. 


The service provides low in-patient services for men and women within a forensic learning disability service. The post holder will deliver OT provision to a designated caseload however may work in other areas if the service requires this.  The post holder’s role will include: planning and implementing a range of therapeutic individual and group work, carrying out functional assessments and contributing to multi-disciplinary team care planning and risk assessments.


Working as part of a team, you will be actively encouraged to develop new interventions that enhance patients’ skills development and social inclusion as well as to provide support and leadership to more junior members of staff, including OT assistants.  You will also be part of supporting and developing our Recovery College.

ROLE:

  • To be responsible for the day to day co-ordination and management of an occupational therapy/Life Skills, Education and Vocational Opportunities Service (LEVOS). 
  • To work closely with all the clinical teams to ensure that an occupational therapy service to patients across the site is provided. 
  •  To contribute to the maintenance of standards of excellence within occupational therapy and throughout the service through Clinical Governance.
  • To appraise, interpret and execute initiatives across the OT/LEVOS Service to promote clinical excellence and increase the profile of Priory Healthcare.
  • To represent Burston OT/Levos at Professional Network Meetings
  • There will be the expectation to take students from the local University (UEA)


DUTIES 
 CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To ensure an efficient referral system to the occupational therapy/LEVOS is maintained.
  • To hold a complex clinical case load and actively engage in the care pathway for a specific patient group.
  • To ensure that a comprehensive occupational therapy service to patients within the service, using agreed assessment tools and techniques where appropriate.
  • To support the OT/LEVOS team with relevant care planning issues, contributing to risk management and devising treatment plans, supporting the CPA process.
  • To implement evidence based interventions according to individual patient’s needs and ensuring the patient’s involvement in all aspects of the occupational therapy process.
  • To deliver and co-ordinate effective therapeutic programmes for qualified occupational therapists, occupational therapy assistants and basic skills teachers and where appropriate co-run groups with other members of the disciplinary team. 
  • To ensure systems and therapeutic procedures are carried out and audited.
  • To ensure that all activities are risk assessed according to Priory Policies. 
  •  To ensure evaluation records of patient’s progress in occupational therapy/ LEVOS and formal assessment reports for individual care reviews and Care Programme Approach meetings meet the agreed NHS contracts and service level agreements.
  • To formally evaluate the service through the most appropriate techniques such as service reviews, patient satisfaction surveys, outcome measures, audits, reflective practice and research.
  •  To oversee and actively participate in CPA review meetings and designated service management forums.
  • To liaise closely with other members of the clinical team and other professionals involved in the implementation of the individual patient’s care plan, including purchasers and future placement providers.
  •  To oversee and ensure that student placements are meaningful, productive and support is given to the student and supervisor.
  • To develop CPD forums and in-service training for the department, and externally.


To be successful as a Lead OT 
• At least 5 years post graduate experience - desirable
• A degree in Occupational Therapy - essential
• Experience of supervising staff - desirable
• Strong ability to reflect on practice and use supervision effectively - essential
• Experience within mental health, learning disabilities, secure or forensic settings 
• A strong interest in working within the field of secure forensic learning disabilities
• Excellent organisational and communication skills
• A flexible approach 
• The ability to work within a Multidisciplinary Team.
• Previous sensory experience desirable but not essential. 

A full clean driving licence is preferable
