Job Advert - Division Information

The Role To teach Science to the young people who have been admitted to The Priory Hospital adolescent ward and to provide other teaching as required Job Purpose To assess, plan, teach and review education tailored to the individual educational needs of each student assigned to the group To take responsibility for aspects of the curriculum according to identified strengths To work as part of the Education team and the wider Multi-disciplinary team

Key Responsibilities

  • To assess and use assessment information provided by others to produce Individual Education Plans with each student
  • To plan and record work using IEPs and daily planning sheets
  • To write weekly reviews of the progress of each young person
  • To link with the student’s home school/college
  • To link with parents/carers
  • To work with young people returning to school or embarking on new educational opportunities.
  • To assist in the development of schemes of work and the development of an alternative curriculum where appropriate
  • To contribute towards the centre ‘Self Evaluation’ and other OFSTED and DfE requirements 
  • To attend daily morning meetings, to take part in Community Meetings, to take part in Education team meetings and group supervision sessions Chelmsford Hospital School
  • To contribute to Education reports for Care Programme Approach Review meetings People Team 
  • To have a working knowledge of the Care Plan for each young person in the group
  • To take part in CPA Review meetings and core team multi-disciplinary meetings as required by the Head of Education
  • To take part in training and meetings required as part of the wider ward program
  • General Knowledge and understanding of mental health difficulties and experience of working with young people with mental health problems in an education context
  • Ability to stimulate and motivate young people who have had a disrupted educational experience, working with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties
  • Experience of child protection procedures
  • An understanding of equal opportunity issues and an awareness of gender, cultural, ethnic and religious issues and how these may impact on learning
  • To comply with the individual and collective responsibilities in accordance with work role, for health and safety in the workplace, providing situation specific risk assessments
  • To undertake other duties commensurate with this role and in accordance with Teachers Pay and Conditions Personal specification

Experience, understanding and skills

  • DfE recognised teaching qualification.
  • Recent relevant teaching experience including assessment and target setting.
  • Recent relevant professional development. 
  • Experience of working with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties including child protection procedures.
  • Experience of contributing to effective team work.
  • Experience of working with other agencies.
  • Knowledge and understanding of mental health difficulties.
  • An understanding of equal opportunity issues.
  • An awareness of gender, cultural, ethnic and religious issues and how these may impact on learning.

The successful candidate will have responsibility for curriculum development in Science. Strength in the delivery of PSHE and SMSC would also be a significant advantage.

This is an excellent opportunity for candidates from mainstream or specialist education or community provision who are looking to move into a hospital specialist setting. Best suited to the post would be a qualified teacher with experience working with young people with social, emotional or mental health difficulties.
